Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Andrew Matthews and I'm a snowboarder athlete from Yellowknife, NWT. I decided to start this blog to keep my friends, family, fans and sponsors up to date about my life as a full time snowboarder. I will be posting about my travels, competitions, training and random awesome things that I come across. Enjoy the journey!
They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Well according to my calculations, this post has at least 12,000 words. Better pull out those reading glasses and get to it!Tube slide - Picture by Brendan Matthews

I went for an epic hike in Squamish before I left BC. If you're ever around that neck of the woods, definitely hike the Chief. The first half of the hike is walking up past a waterfall and the view from the top is spectacular!
I had to do some yoga once we reached the top.
Thank you Judy at Taiga Yoga for helping me learn these poses and many more. If you are in Yellowknife, definitely check out the studio. It's so good!

Back in Yellowknife, I put a snowboard movie in the ESJF film festival so we obviously had to dress up for the premier. Damn, those are some classy athletes! Michael Gilday, myself and Thomsen d'Hont
Nature is just plain awesome. A little change of scenery from my previous hike but this one was also really nice.

Here's a shot from the photo shoot with Mark Gribbon & Rob a couple days ago. Thanks for getting us to hit the kickiest jump ever! It was a really fun session. Thanks Mark for coming out! Check out his work on his website here.
Spring time in Whistler is an awesome time. The weather gets warm, the snow softens up, the lakes are good to go (by Yellowknife standards) and everyone is in high spirits. I've been busy enjoying some of this weather on some adventures. Read on my friends, read on.
We decided to get out of the Whistler bubble for a couple days and adventure down to Vancouver. Nick, Kyle, Ettore and I had one mission - skim board in April. Other than that we just went with the flow and enjoyed a change in scenery. We checked out Stanley Park and decided to play a round of pitch-and-putt in Stanley Park. That night we ended up getting the last few tickets to see Miike Snow at the Commore Ballroom. It was amazing! The next day we braved the water and accomplished our mission. We earned a lot of funny looks from people walking by us on the beach. I followed that up with the coldest outdoor shower of my life. Good fun!

From mountain to ocean, how spoiled are we? Life is amazing.
A couple of weeks ago the Club (WVSC) decided to head up the backcountry to experience what the hype is all about. We rented a bunch of sleds from Blackcomb Snowmobile, put 2 (sometimes 3 people) on each and took off up the trail. The entire day was amazing! We did a bunch of snowboard laps up top in the spring slush. We built a couple jumps and started a session. Ettore was considering the infamous double backflip but stuck to a single backy; Ali stomped a back 3; and Aaron landed a sick tree tap! Check out the edit that Chase Harley made below.
