Introduction

Hello and welcome to my blog! My name is Andrew Matthews and I'm a snowboarder athlete from Yellowknife, NWT. I decided to start this blog to keep my friends, family, fans and sponsors up to date about my life as a full time snowboarder. Update from Austria - Big Air WC in Belgium!

I'm halfway through my European training camp/competition/crazy adventure. This is my first time snowboarding in Europe and my first time to Austira - so far its great. It feels amazing to be back on snow. The timing of our camp couldn't have been better. It snowed the first day I was here which gave the glacier a well needed soft layer on the ice and then it turned sunny for about 10 days. Molly Milligan and I paid for our coach Joe to come with us to get a kick start on training for the 2012/13 season. My riding feels better than ever for this time of year... well usually I'm not riding at all this time of year but you get the picture. I'm working on a whole new competition run and I'm stoked to put it down in a contest!

As part of this trip I really wanted do an early season competition. Well it turns out that I'm going to get more than I expected.. I've qualified for my 4th FIS World Cup (first European) - in Antwerp Belgium! The Big Air will take place on November 10th. I competed in a very similar event in Quebec City last year so I'm confident that my experience will help me to improve this time around.

Thank you to Ric, Dave, Jude and everyone else at NCVC Group of Companies (Ryfan Electric Ltd, Nexum Systems Inc. and NCV Industrial Inc.) for making it possible for me to fly to Europe with my coach for this great opportunity.
